Preschool Hours
For the 2, 3, and 4 year old classes, Soapstone Preschool is open from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm Monday through Friday with an option of Lunch Bunch until 1:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
For the Transition class, Soapstone Preschool is open from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday and 9:30 am until 1:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
For the upcoming 2010/2011 school year, preschool will begin August 31, 2010. Soapstone Preschool follows the schedule set by Wake County Schools for holidays and teacher workdays with occasional exceptions.
Classes Offered **
2 year olds - T/Th or M/W or occasional W/F (2 days) or M/W/F (3 days)
3 year olds - T/Th (2 days) or M/W/F (3 days)
4 year olds - M/W/F (3 days) or M-F (5 days)
Transition/5 year olds – M-F (5 days)

The 2 Year Old Class
The 2 year olds will take part in the following activities during the year:
- Art
- Building with blocks
- Chapel (by December)
- Cooking
- Dramatic Play
- Holiday and birthday celebrations
- Music and movement
- Housekeeping
- Opportunities to share from home
- Outdoor playtime
- Rhymes and stories
- Science
The 2 year olds will enhance their development in the following:
- Self-esteem and self-confidence
- Getting along with their peers
- Following directions
- Trusting others
- Being secure and successful
- Listening skills
- Vocabulary development
- Functioning in a group setting
- Creativity
- Responsibility and Independence
- Having self-control and using words to express feelings
- Easing separation anxiety
- Taking turns
- Gross motor skills (running, climbing, bouncing balls)
- Fine motor skills (sand play, gluing)

The 3 Year Old Class
The 3 year olds will participate in the following activities during the year:
- Art
- Building with blocks
- Chapel
- Cooking
- Dramatic Play
- Field trips
- Holiday and birthday celebrations
- Listening activities
- Music and movement
- Opportunities to share from home
- Outdoor playtime
- Rhymes and stories
- Science
The 3 year olds will enhance their development in the following:

- Getting along with peers and playing together in a group setting
- Following directions
- Being secure and successful
- Expressing feelings
- Creativity
- Responsibility and maintaining self-control
- Trusting others

- Gross motor skills (throwing balls, pedaling tricycle, using sliding board)
- Fine motor skills (manipulating small objects, painting, etc.)

The 4 Year Old Class
The 4 year olds will participate in the following activities during the year:

- Opportunities to share from home
- Outdoor playtime
- Rhymes and stories
- Science (cooking, magnet play, animal development, etc.)
The 4 year olds will enhance their development in the following:
- Self-esteem and self-confidence
- Functioning in the classroom independently and group settings
- Making appropriate choices in classroom activities
- Gross motor skills galloping, throwing, catching balls, balancing their bodies)
- Fine motor skills (cutting, puzzles, peg boards, prewriting skills)
- Cognitive activities - exposure to the alphabet and numbers
- Creativity
- Following directions
- Respecting peers

Transition Class
For 5 Year Olds (as of August 31, 2010)
Monthly Cost: $320
The Transition Class is held five days per week according to the following schedule:
M/Th/F 9:30 am-12:30 pm
T/W 9:30 am-1:30 pm (children bring lunch)
Note: The extra hours on T/W are included in the montly tuition rate.
Purpose And Skills Development:
The Transition Class is designed to meet the needs of children who are 5 years old and may benefit from an extra year of Preschool before entering Kindergarten. Our goal is to build upon skills developed in the 4 year old classroom and to prepare the children for the challenges of a full day Kindergarten class. In addition to the general areas of development, the children may enhance their development in the following areas:
- Readily sharing and taking turns
- Developing further independent skills
- Accepting transitions easily
- Following established rules and limits
- Using words to better express feelings
- Exhibiting good problem solving skills
- Taking responsibility for personal needs
- Respecting property of others
- Developing gross motor skills
- Able to manipulate small parts and objects
