Guatemala

In 2002 Soaptone entered in to a 3 year relationship with Iglesia Penial a United Methodist Church in the Guatemala city of Quetzaltenango (Xela in the Myan Language).

Although the 3 years have passed mission teams continue to go, since 2002 8 teams have gone. The teams have helped build housing and security walls at the VIM head quarters a 2nd floor community area and security walls at Peniel. The 2 most recent teams have teamed with Peniel to build new housing for families that lost homes during hurricane Stan in October of 2005.

These teams traveled to San Bartelo Aguas Caliente a smaller village in the mountains 90 min from Quetzaltenago.

GUATEMALA ADULT MISSION TRIP – JOIN THE TEAM, GROW YOUR FAITH, BE BLESSED

The next Soapstone UMC adult mission trip to Guatemala will be September 20 – 27, 2008. We will work on a construction project - most likely building homes, kitchens or community facilities in a rural, Mayan area. If we have team members in the medical or dental field they may may be opportunities to work in a local clinic.

Those who have previously traveled on a mission trip know it is a powerful, life changing experience; a journey of spiritual growth; the giving, the sharing and the receiving of a blessing. This trip will last a week but the journey will continue long after in sharing of experiences, witnessing of faith, and passing on the blessing.

Mission trip veterans and novices are invited to an informational meeting May 18th at 5:00pm. If you have never been on a mission team we encourage you to come talk to those who have. If your unsure come learn more.
