Lent and Easter Services – 2010
Sunday, March 21….8:30 and 11 Worship Join us as the Chancel Choir, accompanied by a string quartet with members from the North Carolina Symphony, will present Shadows by Douglas E. Wagner. Remember the events and the emotions of Jesus’ sacrifice as we worship together. Palm Sunday….Sunday March 28..8:30 and 11 Worship Join us Palm Sunday as we celebrate with palms Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Worship continues with a dramatic reading (accompanied by special music from the Chancel Choir) of the events of Jesus final week of life according to the gospel of Luke.
Maundy Thursday…..Thursday April 1 at 7:30…Childcare available Join us as we gather for Holy Communion (recalling the last meal that Jesus ate with his disciples) and Tenebrae service. Tenebrae means shadow or darkness. Through the gospel accounts of Jesus’ betrayal, arrest, and trial, worshippers are led to the cross. This service will conclude with the stripping of the altar and departure in silence. The Stations of the Cross Thursday, April 1st – 8:30pm – 10:00pm (will open immediately following the Maundy Thursday service) Friday, April 2nd – Noon – 10:00pm Follow in the footsteps of Christ through the Stations of the Cross - a self-guided devotional walk through the last hours of Christ’s life on Earth. Begin outside in the garden of Gethsemane and continue inside to the other stations to learn of Judas’ betrayal, wash your hands with Pilate, feel the crown of thorns, nail your sin to the cross, and journey into the tomb. Take time at each station for prayer and reflection as you participate in the passion of Christ.
Easter Sunday… April 4
Join us in the Amphitheater as we celebrate at 7AM (with the first rays of light) on Easter morning our risen Lord. A light breakfast will follow. Join us for Worship at 8:30 or 11am as we celebrate the risen Lord and share in the sacrament of Holy Communion on this joyous and holy day.
